报告题目:Constrained Optimization of Multicast Routing for Wide Area Control of Smart Grid

Wide area control (WAC) is highly desirable for maintaining the stability of large-scale smart grid. It crucially requires the support of real-time data communications with low latency. This requirement leads to the consideration of the multicast technique for routing of data packets of various measurements, control signals and commands. While the feasibility of multicast in WAC communications has been investigated, there is a lack of a general framework to formulate and solve the multicast routing problem particularly for WAC. To tackle this problem, this talk presents our recent work of a systematic approach to constrained optimization of multicast routing in WAC over wide area networks (WANs) with a publish-subscribe architecture. To fulfil the requirements of real-time WAC communications, the optimization is formulated to minimize the end-to-end delay over WANs subject to bandwidth constraints. Then, the constrained optimization is solved theoretically by using Lagrangian Relaxation. The theoretic results are implemented in an iterative bandwidth-constrained minimum Steiner tree (BCMST) algorithm. Simulations are conducted to demonstrate the approach presented in this talk.

Professor Yu-Chu Tian, computer scientist and Australia Research Council (ARC) recognized expert of international standing. He is a professor of computer science at the School of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science at Queensland University of Technology in Australia. Prof Tian received the PhD degree from Zhejiang University in 1993 and the PhD degree from the University of Sydney in 2009. Since 2002, he has been with Queensland University of Technology in Brisbane, Australia, initially as a Lecturer and Senior Lecturer, later as an Associate Professor and Head of Discipline of Networks and Communications, and currently as a Professor. He has published a monograph and over 200 refereed papers. His current research interests include big data, distributed computing and cloud computing, computer networks, real-time systems, systems engineering, and control theory and engineering. He is the editor-in-chief for Springer’s Handbook of Real-Time Computing, an Associate Editor for a few international journals.
